Turkish Business Center Announced In Muncie-Delaware County

(October 5, 2011-Muncie, IN) At a news conference held at the former Twoson Tool / Mursix Corporation building, government and economic development officials announced that the 63,000 square foot former manufacturing and corporate office building would serve as a Business Center with a focus on Turkish business. The building, which is located at 4620 West Bethel Avenue in Muncie, Indiana, will officially be named the Turkish Business Center (TBC). The TBC will serve as a multi-tenant structure for international manufacturing, research and technology, corporate and sales offices, and information technology businesses.

“Muncie-Delaware County has made a strong outreach to attract Turkish investment in the last year and we feel we are close to beginning to reap some of the benefits of those efforts,” said Todd Donati, President of the Delaware County Commissioners. “International business development is a key component to continued job growth and opportunity for our community. Asia and Turkey are two key areas of the world that we feel provide us with opportunity. The TBC is a logical next step in being aggressive in this attraction initiative,” added Donati.

“Leading our local delegation to Turkey in January to meet with business and industry leaders confirmed that an outstanding opportunity exists for Turkish investment here in Muncie and Delaware County,” said Sharon McShurley, Mayor for the City of Muncie. “The quality of the leads coming our way along with the great flow of projects that have transpired in the last 7 months have lead us all to believe this Turkish Business Center will be a big success in attracting new jobs and investment. It is our hope that several Turkish businesses will start their US headquarters at the TBC, grow into viable business operations, and have a need to expand into larger buildings within Muncie-Delaware County,” added McShurley.

“The Mayor and Commissioners have both been extremely supportive of advancing our international marketing and recruitment efforts,” said Terry Murphy, Vice President of Economic Development for the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance. “Today’s announcement and last month’s official EB-5 designation for Delaware County are new tools for our community to use to help create jobs and bring investment,” added Murphy.

“In January, an economic development delegation from the community traveled to Turkey to meet with business leaders,” said Jay Julian, President and CEO of the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. “Upon our return, numerous companies, educational leaders and consultants have visited our community. We are hopeful that we will announce good news regarding this center in the near future,” added Julian.
