    Terry Murphy, who has over 25 years experience in the field of economic development, came to the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance in 1991. He has been involved in all areas of economic development, including: business marketing and recruitment, business retention and expansion, shell building and incubator program development, downtown development, international business development, technology development, infrastructure development, and fundraising.

    The Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance is one of one twenty-five "Accredited Economic Development Organizations (AEDO)" in the United States by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). There are approximately 15,000 economic development organizations in the United States. AEDO members are recognized as organizations of excellence in the field of economic development.

    Over the past 50 months, Murphy and the EDA office have been instrumental in the recruitment and expansion of companies that are projected to create over 3,800 new jobs in the community and with projected capital investment of over $300 million dollars. These numbers include four Fortune 500, four international companies, two North American headquarters, and one one regional headquarter retention and expansion. A partial list of companies assisted include:

    • Magna (MPT - Muncie) - 421 jobs, $73 million investment (Canadian)
    • Sallie Mae - 700 jobs, $11 million investment (Fortune 500)
    • IBM - 675 jobs, $3 million investment (Fortune 500)
    • Jarden Home Brands Regional Corporate Office - 42 jobs, $4.4 million investment (Fortune 500)
    • Miasa Corporation - 75 jobs, $8.5 million investment (Spain)
    • Lifetouch - 200 jobs, .75 million investment
    • Brevini Wind Manufacturing and Brevini USA Corporate Headquarters - 455 jobs - $62.5 million investment (Italy)
    • Bell Aquaculture - 75 jobs - $53 million investment
    • Mursix Corporation - 150-250 new jobs - $12 million investment
    • Progress Rail Services (Div of Caterpillar) - 650 jobs - $103 million investment (Fortune 500)
    • ERCO (Worldwide Battery) - 50 jobs - $650,000 invesment

    Prior to coming to Muncie, Murphy worked as the Director of Economic Development at the Mo-Kan (Missouri-Kansas) Regional Council and Economic Development District for seven years where he was involved in, among other things: economic development planning, administration of a SBA 504 Certified Development Company, business financing, infrastructure development, grant administration, port authority development, a shell building program, and downtown development.

    Murphy's education and professional certifications include:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Missouri Western State University
    • Graduation from the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma
    • Designation as a "Certified Economic Developer" (CEcD) from the International Economic Development Council
    • Designation as "Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP)" from the National Development Council
    • Graduation from the Institute for Organizational Management (Chamber Institute) at the University of Delaware

    Murphy also serves on several committees and organizations, including:

    • Board of Directors of Energize ECI
    • Board of Directors of the Yorktown Redevelopment Commission
    • Board of Directors and Officer of the Indiana New Market Tax Credit Advisory Services
    • Board of Directors of the Muncie Sports Commission
    • President of Board of East Central Economic Indiana Economic Development Council
    • Purdue University Industrial Advisory Board

    In 2006 Murphy was named "Person of the Year" in Muncie-Delaware County by the Muncie-Star Press.

    In 2008 Murphy received "Honorary Secretary of Commerce" award in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of economic development.

    In 2012 the Site Selectors Guild (a professional association comprised of the world’s most respected site selection consultants) recognized Murphy and The Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance (EDA) at their first Annual Conference for “Excellence in Economic Development at the County Level.”

    He currently resides in Yorktown, Indiana. Murphy has three daughters: Jennifer, Melissa and Sarah.
