Muncie-Delaware County Completes Marketing Trip to China

(July 20, 2011 - Muncie, IN) The Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance (EDA) completed a marketing and recruitment trip to China that included stops in four cities and meetings with business and government leaders. Terry Murphy, Vice President, Economic Development for the EDA attended the Zhejiang Investment and Trade Symposium in Ningbo followed by meetings in Zhuji City (Muncie sister city) and two other larger cities in Zhejiang Province. While there, Murphy met with businesses involved in agriculture, alternative energy, chemicals, metals, plastics, real estate, textiles and trading centers.

“The Chinese market provides great opportunity for Muncie-Delaware County,” Murphy said. “Companies are not only looking to make strategic investments in the United States but they are looking to purchase products from businesses here. This trip enabled us to follow-up with business prospects we already have while developing new ones.”

Murphy also met with Muncie’s sister city officials to discuss methods to advance relationships among businesses and schools including a potential “Sister School” relationship. Zhuji City officials hope to send a delegation of government and business leaders to Muncie in 2012.

Chinese officials in each of the visited areas requested that Muncie-Delaware County consider bringing back a delegation of targeted business leaders who supply products that are in demand in their area. Later this month, local government officials will be meeting with one or two companies when they arrive in the United States.

The marketing trip is part of Muncie-Delaware County’s “Asian Initiative” supported by the Muncie Mayor and Delaware County Commissioners.
