Alliance Attends Indiana-China Trade and Investment Symposium

(July 23, 2011 - Muncie, IN) Terry Murphy, Vice President of Economic Development for the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance, recently attended the Indiana-China Trade and Investment Symposium in Indianapolis.

The symposium showcased more than 100 Chinese business and government leaders from 12 Zhejiang Province cities. More than 300 American and Chinese company executives had the opportunity to explore potential business relationships to benefit Indiana firms and future foreign investment in the state.

“The symposium gave us an opportunity to meet one-on-one with many Chinese businesses and community leaders to talk about what makes Muncie-Delaware County a great place to do business,” Murphy said. “We were also able to meet with companies and friends we made from our last trips to China. China represents a huge opportunity for our community and the state of Indiana,” added Murphy.

Indiana counts China as its second largest Asian trading partner and seventh-largest export country in the world. Export growth to China has increased from $294 million in 2004 to $1.09 billion in 2010, according to a 2011 report prepared by the United States-China Business Council and Department of Commerce.

Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance expects two visits from Chinese businesses in the months ahead that are a direct result of the “Asian Initiative.”
