Muncie, IN (June 14, 2008) - Muncie-Delaware County officials today completed a highly successful Japan marketing and recruitment trip. The delegation, led by Mayor Sharon McShurley included Terry Murphy, Vice President, Economic Development for the Muncie-Delaware County Economic Development Alliance and city/county consultant Larry Ingraham, President of Ingraham and Associates, Inc.

Local officials traveled over 13,000 miles by air and 2,000 miles by train visiting six cities and attending a dozen meetings.

"The quality of the meetings was excellent", said Mayor McShurley. “We met with three companies that have active projects and another four that are considering expansion opportunities in Indiana. One of the projects is very substantial in size. We are now on the "short list" of communities for two projects as a direct result of this marketing trip. That's exciting!”

"The community's long term investment in the "Asian Initiative" is already paying dividends," said Murphy. "The relationships we have established in previous trips and the aid of Mr. Ingraham allowed us to meet with these expanding companies this week. Establishing relationships is critical to a successful Japanese business recruitment plan.”
The "Asian Initiative" is part of the Vision 2011 Economic Development Program and is jointly funded by the City of Muncie and the Delaware County Commissioners.
